[en] this guy is my little ice jedi. we went out for a walk today and just took my Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S lens with me, with of course the d700 – woulda been difficult to grab the pic without, eh? it was a beautiful day with some sunshine after it had snowed yesterday (to the dismay of all who already thought spring was coming). anyway, i snapped this picture of junior after he grabbed the longest icicle in the neighborhood (guess who had to climb up a facade like spiderman to get it???). there is so much detail and sharpness on the eyes, it is just amazing. of course, you won’t see it in the picture in the blog, but believe me, i am impressed everytime. but, i have to say, it is taking practice to get to know the apertures, especially wide open. it can be open too far sometimes, and the depth of field is so incredibly narrow at f/1.2 and f/1.6, if you don’t get it snap on, you gone… the lens only goes down to f/16, so if you need to cut out lots of light, you better use something like an nd filter. i’m not sure the singh-ray which i talked about here would work because as far as i know, there isn’t one with a diameter of 58mm. you could of course use a reduction thingy if they go that far.
thx
